PATHS TO GEOSPATIAL MAPPING

In our recent video interview, Simon Bailey, CEO of T-Kartor USA, discusses his journey to map making, and how others can launch their own career path in the geospatial intelligence industry.

Simon Bailey’s father was a general contractor. Bailey spent his summers as a kid growing up on construction sites, learning the tools of the trade, and as he says, “getting into trouble.” Bailey eventually started working for his father at the construction sites, where he fondly look upon the surveyors who visited to layout site plans. Bailey wondered, why can’t I do that? And it wasn’t long before he had a job surveying land himself. Then he learned AutoCAD software, and his long-term career in map-making and way-finding began.

According to Bailey, anyone can break into the geospatial industry today, and “you don’t need a four-year college degree.”

Bailey is now the CEO of T-Kartor USA, a company that creates and maintains geographical information, maps and charts for a number of industries and organizations, including the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. T-Kartor USA is based out of the Globe Building in the Downtown North district of Saint Louis. Learn more at t-kartorusa.com.
